The Protect Planet Earth Campaign

Orbitz Worldwide is dedicated to promoting and supporting sustainable tourism efforts. We remain focused on protecting our planet and improving the lives of those living on it. We exhibit our dedication to this task as we work to mitigate the impact travel has on the environment and we support local tourism communities in need.

Orbitz Worldwide launched a microsite in April 2007 focused on offering environmentally friendly travel options to customers (eco.orbitz.com). Through our partnership with CarbonFund.org, we enable customers to offset their carbon footprint cause by pollution related to travel. We also work to provide customers more eco-friendly hotel choices and auto rentals. In our offices, our employees lead by example as they start recycling programs, ensure the use of energy efficient lighting and enact other energy saving initiatives to reduce our natural resource consumption.

Orbitz Worldwide also works to promote voluntourism within local communities. In 2007, Orbitz Worldwide launched this initiative by creating volunteer.cheaptickets.com, in partnership with the United Way of America. Orbitz Worldwide also gives its employees paid time off to volunteer and will, where possible, subsidize their travel needs should they want to take a volunteer vacation.
